While most Braybrooke pet owners act responsibly, there are increasing incidents of dog fouling. The North Northants Council website provides valuable guidance on new tougher legislation that has been introduced:
When your dog fouls in a public area, it’s an offence not to pick up the mess and dispose of it in a designated dog or public litter bin. If none are available, please take it home and place it in your black wheelie bin. It’s important to note that not having a suitable bag or being unaware of your dog fouling is not a legal defence.
Dog fouling can pose health risks. Although rare, contact with dog excrement can lead to toxocariasis – a severe infection causing symptoms like dizziness, nausea, asthma, and even blindness or seizures.
Failure to clean up after your dog will result in a Fixed Penalty Notice of up to £100. In more severe cases, this may escalate to fines of up to £1,000.
If you witness someone not cleaning up after their dog, please report it at reportadogissue, providing details such as dates/times, the dog’s description, and information about the offender. Any ongoing fouling issues can be reported at: reportadogissue they may take steps to address the problem, such as putting up warning signs or increasing monitoring efforts.
